A Word From the President

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Boggs Academy National Alumni Association, I would like to thank you for your support. 2011 Alumnus of the Year
Daisy Richardson
is a 1961 graduate of Boggs Academy and has distinguished herself by not allowing her humble beginnings on a farm in Gough, GA to define her life. A formal education seemed to have been the norm in her household because Daisy was the fourth and last of nine siblings to graduate from Boggs. What a legacy! After graduating from Boggs, Daisy attended and graduated from another Presbyterian school, Warren Wilson College in NC. Not yet finished with her educational pursuits, Daisy went to Howard University in Washington, DC for one year and was then off to see the world as a member of the Air Force. While serving in the Air Force, love came calling. Daisy met her husband, William, and love took flight. As a mother of two young children, Daisy joined the Air Force Reserves and traveled with her husband, who was still on active duty. They traveled from the plains of Nebraska to the beaches of Florida and spent time overseas. While traveling around the USA and the world was work, it was also fun and educational for the entire family. In addition to being a Reservist, Daisy worked in accounting for the Air Force as a civilian. She retired in 2004 after 28 years as a Senior Accounting Technician for Defense Finance and Accounting.

Retirement opened doors for leisure travel and the use of Daisy‟s talents and gifts in serving her community. Daisy has served several terms as President of the Greater Randolph Area Kiwanis Club where the emphasis is on changing the lives of children and families. She is most proud of being able to serve the community through the Eta Phi Beta Sorority where she is treasurer. The sorority‟s motto “Not for ourselves but for others” seems to infuse Daisy‟s life. Daisy has faithfully served as Recording Secretary for the Boggs Academy National Alumni Association for many years and is also secretary for the local chapter in San Antonio, TX where Daisy and William make their home.

What drives Mrs. Daisy? I think the answer might be the giving of herself to enrich the lives of those around her. Daisy, congratulations are in order because your life speaks volumes about the ability to live fully and well.

The Passing of a Matriarch Leaves a Void in the Boggs Family

Mrs. Lela Wright Stone, class of ‘46 and a Boggs faculty member, passed on December 24 in Marietta, GA. The funeral was held on December 30 at Belle Terrace Presbyterian Church in Augusta, GA with a great cloud of witnesses to a life well lived present. Among the tributes given were Resolutions from the BRLC, the BANAA and the Concerned Citizens of Keysville. Mrs. Stone would have been proud of the Boggs graduates who were program participants. The music reminded us of a gentle and quiet woman who left no stone unturned. The service was evidence that she left her soul print on those she met and served. Mrs. Stone, you set an excellent example for us and we hope to follow in your path. RIP

A New BA Alumni Chapter!
The Regional Chapter was established on December 13, 2010. This new chapter is for those who reside in areas outside of the larger Boggs Alumni populations. We want to provide a portal through which our members can support the national objective-which is to perpetuate the Boggs legacy - which, by default, we will recognize as our own. Just as the corporate structure does, our group intends to, promote the actions necessary to bring, growth and keep us (Boggs alumni) together as a group. We are new and still engaged in contacting perspective members, developing goals and generating Ideas, as well as an active agenda that will continue the building of the legacy of the Boggs Academy Alumni Association. The Regional Chapter officers are: Robert Long, President, Glenda Farrell, Vice-President, Sammie Dukes, Secretary. Please accept our invitation to become a member of this new chapter.

Letter From LeAngela
Greetings Fam!

"How can I help?" is the question I have heard only second to the statement, "Let me know how I can help" since this new stage of my life began.

I asked that you keep smiling and keep me laughing-- you have.
Prayers are constantly being submitted on behalf of Jacob and I-- and answered! Thanks. My July 8th scan results showed a 57% reduction in tumor size and tomorrow I will get results of my August 19th scans.

I am in the process of setting up a community for anyone interested in supporting "Team LeAngela" in a tangible way. Please click on the link below to join. You need only fill out the right-hand side of the form which is a Request to Join the Community. Once you've done this, I will receive an email back stating that there are "pending members".
https://www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/630042/

I know that several people have mentioned their concern about asking me questions for fear of upsetting me. It has also been difficult for me to keep up with whom I have shared information or to whom I have shown appreciation. This process will help me assure that no one is left out and that you are able to get information as you are comfortable. You will be privy to updates/events AND have an opportunity to see ways that you can participate in the "team".

Thanks SO much and I look forward to spending time and creating more memories with you!
Peace and Love!
LeAngela

Letter to Alumni

Over the past few months, the Board of Directors has undergone reorganization under the authority of our bylaws and corporate mandates of the State of Georgia.  In accordance with that authority, we have charted a course of action for the future betterment of the organization.  This course of action was approved by the Board of Directors.   It is our hope that you not only notice this change in your alumni association, but that you are confident in our abilities as leaders.   We eagerly solicit  your suggestions, participation, contributions, and membership as we move forward. Mid-Term Board of Directors' Conference
The first annual Mid-term Board of Directors Conference was held in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 4 - 6, 2010. The conference was well attended by both the local chapters and the BOD Members.

The two-day conference was intended to be a rebirth of commitments and vision. The agenda was robust and very important issues were brought to the table for healthy deliberation and debate.

On Friday, the sessions started at 2:00 p.m. and continued well into the evening with very few breaks. The recent reorganization of the group took center stage.

The meeting resumed on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Saturday's discussion pivoted around the Bylaws, social networking, the Alumni House, and the maintenance of our corporate records. Committees were formed and almost 100% reaffirmed their commitment to make our organization better as we build on the Boggs Academy legacy.

It was agreed that the Board of Directors would operate in a more transparent way by maintaining dialogue with  our alumni constituency. President Sammie Dukes emphasized the need for Directors to be more accountable for their respective tasks and to each other.  Our next meeting is scheduled to coincide with the Annual Reunion in October of this year.
